So, yesterday was supposed to be a rest day. You know, one of those days where you don’t do anything and rest up so you can climb that much harder the next day? The problem is that it’s really hard to not climb when you’re in Squamish. No matter where you go, there is some world-class climbing withing a few minutes of hiking.
So, after sleeping in and having a nice lazy breakfast and taking care of some around-town stuff like getting food and catching up on emails, we went south a bit to Murrin Park to do a touch of cragging. We did a couple of fun 5.10 finger cracks and then decided to go for a swim. Here in lies the problem… there is a perfectly good lake about a minute from the parking lot, but it’s really popular and I’m not much for crowds. There is another, much smaller, much colder pool at the top of Shannon Falls that you can get to by climbing a fun, five-pitch 5.8 called Skywalker. So, we passed up on the easy option in favor for a few pitches of climbing followed by a very refreshing dip. Seven pitches total for the rest day.
Today, we tried to sleep in and make it until about 10:00, which was nice. We actually did feel a bit rested, but we decided to try and take it easy again (or on the easy side anyway). Our easy route for the day was a fantastic, five-pitch 5.10 called Wire Tap.
