Sunshine Coast

It turns out that the body cannot live on nothing but whiskey, beer, poutine, and Tim Bits. For my rest day, I managed to get horribly sick, so Jen did the bulk of the driving while the whole crew moved down to North Van and got on a ferry headed for the Sunshine Coast. Our plan was to ride at the new gravity park put in by the Coastal Crew. Not that Whistler isn’t amazing, but we like to check out new places whenever possible.

If going to Whistler is like going to a ski resort (which it is), then going to the Coast Gravity Park is like going to a friend’s barbeque, if your friend happens to have world-class trails in his back yard. And I don’t just mean some hand-dug singletrack that’s only fun with a few beers. The Coastal Crew put in machine dug, hand-polished trails that are smooth enough to ride on a road bike. The berms are neck high, and everything flows like a river. Instead of a lodge, there’s a nice piece of shade with coolers and a barbecue. The whole scene is just amazing. After a day of riding at the park, we swam in the ocean, chilled out for our last night in Canada, and then made a couple laps on an awesome local trail before packing it in and heading home. Now we’re all back in SLC. Jen and I are already planning the next trip up to BC.
