After our circuitous trip through Southern Utah, we found ourselves once again in Red Rocks. Given the season, it seemed like a good place to get back into rock climbing shape after a winter of ice and hiding in the van during arctic cold spells.
But, the weather did not exactly cooperate with us. It rained most days, which led us to more days at the Blue Diamond cave than we would have liked. When it stayed dry enough to get on sandstone, we would run up one of the park’s many multi-pitch moderate classics. And, while we managed to get in a few good ones, there was a lot more sitting around than we would have liked.
Lovell canyon is a pretty good hang, but it’s 40 minutes from most of the climbing, and overall we just spent way too much time reading books in the van and not enough climbing. That led to talks about what else we could be doing. We didn’t plan on going East during this trip at all, since there is so much driving and very little to do in the middle. But, after a couple weeks of mostly festering, Jen and I pulled the plug and pointed the van in that direction hoping to find fun cragging and drier weather. We’ll see.
