A Taste Of Winter

After nearly two months of summer in the dead of winter, snow finally fell again in the Wasatch Range. Not much snow, but good snow, and that’s all it took for me to pull my poor neglected skis out of their dusty corner in the garage. I joined Rick for a trip up Grizzly Gulch, around Wolverine Cirque, and to the top of Tuscarora.

It was clear that people had been itching for a fix of backcountry skiing. The traffic up the canyon was pumper to pumper, and every place where someone could peel their skins and drop in on a line had at least a half dozen people in queue. The South Face of Mt Superior was nearly as tracked out as the slopes of Alta on the other side of the road. Rick and I just added two more bodies to the mass hysteria, and we were happy to do so.
