OK, I’ve been on record several times as saying that I don’t really like bay-stage matches all that much. I definitely prefer big, natural-terrain matches with lots of long range and 100+ second stages. However, Pete Rensing matches have been growing on me for a while, and the UML Championship officially changed my mind.
This 15-stage match was everything I love about 3-gun. There was long range out past 400 yards, in-your-face hosing, hard shots, tight no-shoots, lots of movement, and lots of stage options. Best of all, it was the first time I’d shot a match in Vegas and without feeling like I was going to melt.
At the end of the weekend I was able to put together a solid enough match to just eek out third place in Tac Ops by about 0.5% from a field that was stacked with some extremely good shooters.
Congratulations to Nils Jonasson for taking home the win, and huge thanks to all the staff who made this happen and the guys on my squad who made it an awesome weekend.
