2019 High Desert Championship

It’s been a long time since I’ve shot a match up in Parma, and last weekend I had the chance to run and gun on this awesome range once again and was fortunate enough to take home the win in TacOps.

This is only the second year of the High Desert 3 Gun Championship, and already Aaron Goodfellow and his crew are putting on a good show. It was a 10-stage match with big courses of fire, lots of shooting, and lots of movement. Average winning stage times were in the 100-second range, with several going over 130. No one left that range feeling like they didn’t get their money’s worth. I even got to shoot the 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun on the clock for the first time in several years.

Like all new matches, this one is still working out some kinks. But Aaron legitimately cares about the quality of his match and the competitors’ experience. He’s asking for feedback and putting in the effort to make this match even better for next year. I have the feeling that soon this will be a must-attend event.

This is in no small part due to the nicest crew of ROs I’ve ever experienced—and that’s not something I say lightly. I camped on the range and hung out with them each night. While I’ve heard ROs from other matches bragging about how many guys they DQd, these guys were bragging about how many guys they saved from being DQd by catching a potential mistake before it went bad and saving a competitors weekend.
