Well, after my case separation on one of the night stages, I managed to claw my way back into the top 10 at the Surefire World Multi-gun Championships and make the shootoff. While I sure didn’t want a 26% stage on my score sheet, it was a good test of my ability to get my head back in it. Adam from a year ago would have been going stage to stage trying to make up ground and having disasters as a result. I’m very happy to have gotten past that.
As for the match, it was awesome. I sometimes leave UML matches thinking that there’s too much ammo still left in my truck, but that was not the case here. I even had to scrounge five slugs to get through the shoot off.
The Ironman stages were excellent, the night stages were super fun (yes, even that one), and yes Pete, I even liked the bay stages.
And while Cody Leeper most definitely deserves a congratulations for his win in Tac, I want give a big shout to the second place finishers in Tac and Limited.
Joshua Tarrant is the person I point out when I tell students how far you can get in a short amount of time if you’re willing to put in the work. Josh practices like a mad man, and his results reflect the effort. Beast-mode Josh from today would easily put 20% into Josh from two years ago at any match. And, he’s a damn nice guy too.
Mike Bauer shot the worst stage I’ve ever seen him shoot to start off the match, and he managed to fight his way back into the shootoffs at third and squeak out another spot when he got there. When I started Nationals with the same kind of performance last year, Mike was there to talk me down. This time, I got to return the favor, and watching him turn it back on and finish so well was awesome.
